dog checkup?
well I have decided to get pet insurance for my dog hes 4 moths old and his shots are updated, does he need a check up before I get it to send to the company? It does say they will need his records from the vets- we brought him to the vets that the breeder brought him to before we got him and let her continue with his shots then I brought him to another vet for microchipping because the other vet doesnt do that. so my Q is are sending both the vets records good or do I still need to have him get a phycical? also another Q- I have heard petplan is real good I also picked up a brouchure from the vets yesterday on the VPI Pet insurance but if i am correct the petplan one is throughout the life of the dog- was just wondering if anyone has that and what their exsperiances were. In my experience, once you've done the preliminary rounds of shots, if you've bought a well-bred dog from a decent breeder, you are better off BANKING the amount of the pet insurance every month and saving it for if something goes wrong.
Pet insurance doesn't cover most bone cancers (common in Golden Retrievers and Bernese). It doesn't cover any reproductive issues (which aren't an issue if you neuter him). It will cover bloat- but if you're feeding him 2 small meals a day he should be ok..
Insurance companies are in the game to make money.. which means they approve less of the bills coming in than they have paying in. Plus pet insurance REPAYS you... which means you have to have the upfront cash in the first place anyhow... (so if you decide to do the pet insurance make sure you also have cash available).
For my dogs... its just safer/cheaper for me to have $3000 or so in credit ready for a just in case scenario.
