23 people and 20 cows died in auto crash in Nigeria
In Nigeria, road accident does happen frequently on daily basis because of substandard roads, over speeding, overloading, and sometimes greed. To reduce road accident the Federal Road Safety Commission builds road-bombs and installing traffic lights but that seems to be a death trap, as no one slows down at the road bombs or obey the traffic light.
Investigations revealed that the trailer left Talatan Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara state, Nigeria with over 45 cows and 54 passengers to Lagos state on wee hours of the night.
The trailer was heading to Dankano village in Zamfara state a root to Lagos stat speeding above 120 Kilometer per hour, due to the inability of the driver to read road signs he suddenly behold a very sharp bend, the driver lost control of the vehicle which lead to the death of over 23 people and 20 cows after somersaulting several times.
Findings proofed that the driver was paid to convey only the 45 cows to Lagos but the driver tries to make more profit as he created a setting space in the trailer and charged the passenger N1000 equivalent to $7, while the normal transport fess to Lagos state is N4000 equivalent to $27 which seems to be a nice deal for the passengers.
Ironically, the owner of the Cows who goes on under the nickname ‘Manama’ surfaced the scene but did not show concern over the dead people, he holds one of the dead cows and cried over the deaths of his cows.
Eyewitness told that officials of the Road Safety Commission of Talatan Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara state, Nigeria came to the scene of the accident where they successfully conveyed the corpses to Talatan Mafara General Hospital in Zamfara state.
When contacted, the Sector Commandant of the Federal Road safety Commission Zamfara state Mr. Cheche Orji Kalu confirmed the accident. He said the relations of the victims would be contacted and those who they could not would be given a mass burial.
Mr. Cheche warned commercial drivers in the state to desist from over loading as it an offence, stressing that whoever caught with over load would be dealt with according to the dictates of the law.
To this end, who is to be blamed the driver or the passenger also what is behind it speed or greed, just as it has been said, “Africa is in a worry, but Nigerians are in haste and wants to become rich in a day,” the unfortunate part of it all is that Nigerians are rushing to nowhere.
