Usb Turntables
Does anyone out thier have any infomation on ION USB Turntables. And if so do they work well and recomeded?
A California outfit called Ion has spotted this evident need for a simple piece of kit which makes the vinyl-to-digital transfer as painless as possible, and launched the first (as far as they know) USB turntable. We reported the product launch at the end of last year, but it's only recently that we were able to snag one for review:

ION Profile Series Turntables at Winter NAMM 2010
Has anyone used a USB turntable that connects to your PC to transfer vinyl on to your computer?
Were you able to successfully rip and save the music to your computer? Was it worth buying one? I am interested in the Ion turntable, but I would like to hear other people's experiences with a USB turntable before I make a purchase
It was definitely worth it in my case. My old turntable was shot and I have collected a lot of vinyl over the years, much of which is not yet on CD and in some cases never will be.
I can't say that I know much about the Ion turntables. But the process is the same regardless of which brand you go with. Personally, I went with an Audio Technica model:

Of course, you'll also need software to digitize your recordings. I have a Mac, so may have different software options than you. I've used a product called FinalVinyl, and it works wonderfully. There's a newer application for Macs called WireTap Studio that has gotten raves. I'm planning to demo that -- from what I've read, it looks like a significant improvement over FinalVinyl.
One more recommendation, now that I think of it... Before switching to a Mac, I did rip some LPs using a PC. The software I used was called Audacity, and it also worked very well. If you're using a PC, that's a pretty good (free!) program that will do exactly what you need.
