anyone know if you can buy a cable to connect a turntable's pre-amp to a laptop PC (I have...?
...a microphone jack)?
I want to convert my vinyl into digital files on my PC - without buying a usb turntable
What you need is a basic USB interface. The mic jack won't work well because it's mono. You can buy them with or without phono preamps built-in. The ART unit sounds VERY nice. Even just using it as a phono preamp, it sounds better than some "budget high-end" phono preamps I've heard and it makes excellent recordings via USB. The phono preamp can be turned off for recording digitally from tape decks, etc...

The Behringer unit is cheaper, but does not have a phono preamp built in. You'd have to run your turntable through a phono preamp or a receiver with phono inputs and tape outputs before connecting to this USB interface. I haven't heard this one personally, but the reviews look good.
