Type Phonographs

What types of phonograph reproducers sound the best?
I've seen the typical mica diaphragm as well as the metal ones used in orthophonic Victor phonographs, and I was wondering, is one better than the other? Does the metal produce a better quality sound, or the mica, or does it even matter?
I've recently taken a great interest in old pre-war mechanical record players, and would like to learn as much as I can, so does anyone have any experience with both?
Thanks, hope I get some good answers!
Victor Orthophonic, hope i helped.

Zonophone $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Zonophone, early on also rendered as ZonOPhone was a record label founded in 1899 in Camden, New Jersey by Frank Seaman. The Zonophone name was not that of the company, but was applied to the records and machines sold by Seaman from 18991900 to 1903. The name was subsequently acquired by Columbia Records, Victor Talking Machine Company, and finally Gramophone Company/EMI Records. It has been used for a number of record publishing labels by these companies.Frank Seaman had worked for Emile Berliners Berliner Gramophone. Seaman decided to start his own company to produce disc records and disc phonographs. Seamans ZonOPhone records design and technology were shamelessly stolen from Berliner, and the machines similarly copied from the products of Eldridge R. Johnsons Consolidated Talking Machine Company. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Spadikam $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Chacko Master (Thilakan) is a highschool headmaster who is a presidents medal winner in Mathematics. He is a very strict teacher and emphasizes memorization and discipline at the expense of analysis and creativity in school. He punishes his students ruthlessly and gives no special treatment to his son Thomas, who is also a student in his class. Chacko always assumes that his son is behind every mischief in class, and punishes him until the actual culprit gives himself in. Unlike his father, Thomas isnt too good in math (he cannot memorize the binomial theorem) but he is very creative and productive in designing mechanical and electronic gadgetry like a mechanical school bell which his father destroys later. For instance, he impresses his mother and sister by developing an AM radio receiver inside a soapcase at a time when phonographs were more prevalent in his village.
