ION turntable volume/sound issue?
I recently bought an ION USB turntable, and despite connecting it to an audio receiver (in turn connected to speakers) I am not getting output from the speakers. The turntable comes with a built-in preamp, and I have the RCA cables connected to the proper in/out ports on the receiver. Is the preamp simply not "on"? I can't find any switches.

RCA VICTOR 78 & 33 1/3 RPM RECORD CHANGER PROGRAM TRANSCRIPTION DEMONSTRATION
My record player won't work, help?
I've got the RCA plugs in a speaker and the needle is completely fine, but nothing comes through the speaker when the record plays. There's another wire that comes out of the record player that looks like a U or horse shoe that I don't have an input for. Also, there's a knob that can be turned to 17(7), 25(10), 30(12), or manual and I don't know what it does. If one of the aforementioned things is the problem I'd appreciate advice, or if you have a completely different suggestion I'd love to hear all of them. It's a Sony Stereo Turntable Sytem PS-X5 if that helps.
A record player can only be connnected to a stereo system through the jacks labled phono or phonograph not aux. or line in. the extra wire is the ground and is connected to a small screw near the phono jack labeled grond. the only way you can connect the record player without the proper jacks would be to buy a preamp. I would guess the numbers are for different size records.
