My record player blew one of my speakers out!? whats wrong? am i missing something. ..?

i have the turntable plugged into the amp. . and the speakers are plugged into the amp. . what more do i need? is my setup or placement of the speakers or turntable wrong??
the turntable is plugged into the phono jack of the preamp.. . . and like. .. vibrations from around the speakers blows em out? like if someone dances by the speakers the get all distorted. .. . its wierd.. .
no.. . its like. . . if you take the dust cover off the front of the speaker box to expose the speaker.. . and someone walks by the speaker when music is playing. . the speakers freak out. .. or if you turn up the music really loud.. . like . .. the reverb or something makes the speakers freakout. .. .
with the dust cover off the front of the speakers . .. . you can see them being stressed to thier max. . . or if you tap your foot on the ground next to one when its playing . . . . it freaks out. . .

Turntables (especially older ones) have different amp/preamp requirements than say, a CD player. I would check with the manufacturer to see what they recommend. The exact opposite happened to me--plugged in the turntable, and could hardly hear the music with the volume turned all the way up. Turns out the table had no preamp built in and the regular amp didn't boost it enough. Perhaps yours needs to be stepped down?
