How do I connect my amp to my PC?
My set up is as follows.
Turntable into amp output sound via speakers, Simple.
Now is there a way of using that setup to line in to my PC via a 3.5mm jack that I could connect to my amp. 3.5mm jack lines in to the back of the PC yes but where should the white and red connectors plug into my amp...if anywhere? The turntable takes up the phono input on the amp.
Unless there is a cable that has 3.5mm Jack on both ends and I stick one into the headphones jack on the amp and the other into the line in on the PC?
OK, I think what you're asking is how to get the turntable's sound into your PC. To do that, you have to go through the amplifier instead of connecting the record player directly to the computer's sound card. This is because turntables use RIAA equalization correction. You could theoretically connect it directly to the PC but it would sound unacceptably shrill. Amps with Phono inputs have a special EQ circuit that boosts the bass and rolls off the treble from vinyl records to make them sound normal.
You're correct -- you need a cord like this, with a male stereo 1/8" plug on one end and a male 1/4" plug on the other (assuming you amp has a 1/4" headphone jack):

You'll have to experiment with manually setting the volume level of the amp's output and/or the PC's recording level so that you get a good signal without going over 0.0dB and getting digital distortion, but that's easy. I have used my computer to record my rare 12" remixes using just such a setup. You can find such cables at Radio Shack, just walk in and ask for a 1/8"-->1/4" stereo cable. So just keep the turntable connected to your amp in the normal way, and use the cable to connect the amp's headphone out to the PC's line in.
