Turntable Performance
What is the effect of using a microwave oven when the inside coating is flaking off?
The flakes are not getting into the food, as this is happening on the floor of the oven - where the turntable rollers roll. The coating is coming off and some of it is rusting. Is there any danger in using the oven? Does this affect the performance of the oven? Other than this, the oven is in good condition and seems to be working well. Is there a paint or coating that I can buy to repair this?
No it will not affect the operation of the microwave unless the rust becomes real thick. The powder coating probably wore off from the wheels on the turntable.
You could buy some appliance touch up paint to touch it up. Or just keep it dry and it will not rust very bad.
The steel housing keeps the microwaves inside the unit. The paint provides no radiation protection.
