How do I drumproof/turntableproof a 3rd story attic being turned into a music room for really cheap?
Hey, my friend just bought a house and we are turning his 3rd story attic into an insulated living space that we need to soundproof. we are in the process of building the frame and hopefully will be getting into the insulation and soundproofing installations in the next week. I have al drum set and my room ate has turntables. Our main goal is to turn the 500 square foot room into virtually silence, i know it sounds far fetched but i want to be able to play loud as it gets without waking the neighbors. The only issue is don't want to spend hardly any money. literally like none. but i do want to use my resources. if anyone has suggestions please let me know..thanks abunch!!
polystyrene is an excellent muffler
Also cheap. 2400x1200mm sheet is about £5.50 for a 25mm thick sheet. The thicker the better, but you said cheap
Then if you paper this over with plain lining paper (40m for about £4 in Wickes) and then cover everything in black foam, this will absorb excess noise. I know that you can get sheets of foam from dunelm pretty cheap. Obviously I dont know how big your loft is, but I shoudl think you could get it all done under £100.
Oh, and I also used tin foil (shiny side facing the room) before the polystyrene to refelct heat and sound too. Cant remember where I saw that, and dont know if it helps, but certainly doesnt hurt. My loft is pretty sound proof now.
