R&P I had a discussion in Best Buy with some employees about the benefits of?

vinyl vs. CDs (did you know Best Buy is selling turntables? Peter Frampton told me, so I went down there to see)

Now, these kiddos weren't even BORN when CDs came into existence, and they INSIST that vinyl is better for sound than a CD. Hmmmmm...now,. someone please remind me WHY we got all excited when CDs came out? I know I did!

MQ: Vinyl or Compact Disc or iPod or Mp3?

BQ: Do you remember the first compact disc you ever bought?

My first CD was Whitesnake's "Whitesnake" and I think I played it so much I destroyed it

I liked the idea of cd's for the portability, I couldnt play records in my chevette.
besides, I never had a decent record player, so yeah, the cd's sounded better. Tapes were alright, but you couldnt just skip ahead or replay that same song over and over with any amount of ease.
And yes, that notion of being "indestructible" was appealing, not true, but appealing.

mq - eh, its been so long since ive listened to actual vinyl, I dont really miss it. we listen to cd's and ipod/mp3s, some i ripped myself, some I didnt. the difference I can hear on the mp3s I didnt personally rip is the volume, sometimes they vary in volume when played in a shuffle.
(and my hearing ranks in the 21 khz in the teen tone ringtone test, even on my stupid logitech speakers)

bq - it was either a local band called "marys danish" or social distortion, both around the same time.
I started buying cd's around the same time pretty hate machine came out, so probably that one too.
