Turntable Disc Jockey

What is better to use? A vinyl turntable or a CDJ?
Hi everybody. I am new in this of the DJ'S and I need to know what is better to use to mix. a vinyl turntable or a CDJ? And, what differs exists between both? Because some DISC JOCKEY still using the vinyl turntables and already I have seen the CDJ and I believe that it is more practically to use them, but if is not this correct, help me.
And sorry for my english, i'm from mexico
Either one will work - it really depends on what type of DJ'ing you plan to do. If you are going to DJ at clubs or parties with a lot of young people, vinyl would be a good option. Vinyl is more expensive but you can do more with it as far as scratching goes.
If you are going to DJ as a business for adult type of events - weddings, parties etc, I would get CD players or ipods or a laptop. Many DJ's just use a single laptop and a mixer now.

Disc Jockey $81.25 A disc jockey (also known as disk jockey, DJ or deejay) is a person who selects and plays recorded music for an audience. Originally, disk referred to phonograph records, while disc referred to the Compact Disc, and has become the more common spelling. Today, the term includes all forms of music playback, no matter the source. There are several types of disc jockeys. Radio DJs introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, shortwave, digital, or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs, discothques, at raves, or even in a stadium. Hip hop disc jockeys select and play music using multiple turntables, often to back up one or more MCs, and they may also do turntable scratching to create percussive sounds. In reggae, the disc jockey (deejay) is a vocalist who raps, toasts, or chats over prerecorded rhythm tracks while the individual choosing and playing them is referred to as a selector. Mobile disc jockeys travel with portable sound systems and play recorded music at a variety of events. Radio Jockey $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A radio jockey (or RJ) is a person who hosts a radio talk show where the RJ selects the music to be played, or topic of discussion, by interacting with the audience; the interaction is often via telephone, but may also be online, or via email. Etymologically, the term is derived from disc jockey, a term used to describe a person who plays music in discotheques. However, it is still uncertain when it first became popular. Its origin shows a regional bias as, although quite generic in description, it is used specifically in India. Today, radio jockeying is considered to be a hot profession, and some radio jockeys have become household names, such as Ameen Sayani, Shamshir, Karan, Hardeep Chandpuri, Anil Srivatsa and Nitin. Radio jockeys may start working for fixed salaries, but their paypackages can skyrocket after a few years in the business. Many go on to become voiceover artists and lend their voices to commercials, dubbed movies and even animated shows. Some radio jockeys go to other countries and host what are called desi shows, which have Indian influences. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. CR49-BK Traveler Turntable (Black) $119 The optimum use of a disc record of constant rotational speed occurs when the innermost recorded diameter is half of the outermost recorded diameter.” But why worry yourself with the details. The Crosley Portable Suitcase Style Turntable plays all three speeds, 33 1/3, 45 and 75 RPM records. By the late fifties, stereo records reached a peak in the marketplace as hi-fi sound reproduction attained its largest audience to date. The portable turntable was introduced in the late 1950's and provided music lovers with a sense of independence, allowing them to easily cart their record player from one locale to another. The popularity of this unit was due in no small part to its portability, but also to its suitcase-styled finishing touches that became a Crosley hallmark. So whether you choose Ella Fitzgerald or Elvis, celebrate your vinyl in portable style. |

How to Become a DJ : How to Use a Turntable While DJing
Disc Jockeys, what are the basic pieces of equipment that are needed to DJ with a laptop?
I have a question for any Disc Jockeys. My 13-year old nephew wants to start DJing with his laptop. I was wondering what are the basic pieces of equipment that are needed? Is it just a mixer, turntable, laptop, and speaker that he needs? And is it possible that he can just use the laptop to DJ without the turntable? What are some good programs to use to DJ using only a laptop, mixer and speaker (minus the turntable)?
All depends on what kind of DJ he wants to be. If he's looking to scratch music, he'll need turntables (or digital turntables like Pioneer-800s).
Basics for mixing music (equipment enough to dj a wedding, club etc...) includes:
Laptop connected with a y cable (a cord with a headphone jack on one end, and Red and White (RCA) on the other end.
The RCA end plugs into one of the channels on the mixer. Mixer plugs into either 1) an amplifier which plugs into speakers, or 2) powered speakers ('powered' means the speaker has an amp inside it).
For software, I would recommend Virtual DJ. You can get a trial version at www.virtualdj.com, and to purchase the full set up with external sound card it's about $499. But for now, he can just practice.
Learn beatmatching, learn how to program a dance floor, and he's good to go.
Feel free to contact me through my website at http://www.orangemanproductions.com and I would be glad to give more tips, as it gets too technical to explain through text alone.
Good luck, I hope to see him at the club some day!
