it was played, by pepper, on a turntable in his home on a documentary about him (probably on sky Artsworld but it was an old documentary)
I think the cover was quite abstract with red and blue

Vintage vinyl.....45's and 33's......?
I have recently been purchasing old 45 RPM records for a decorating project. I have noticed that many of the 45's I see for sale have had a small hole drilled through the paper label covered part--right beside the hole used for stacking the record on the turntable. Anybody have any idea why that would have been done? Could it be the equivalent of paperbacks with the front cover torn off? (when they were donated, etc instead of sold)

I used to work for a radio station and we used to give away CD's. When we got the CD's from the record companies, there was a hole drilled through the jewel case to indicate that the CD was complimentary so that it couldn't be taken to a store for an exchange or refund. Sounds very much like ripping the cover off of a paper-back book that wasn't sold. So, it sounds very much like that. You could have purchased records that somewhere throughout their lifetime were given away as prizes etc.
