A car of mass m = 1140 kg drives onto a large turntable at a speed, v = 4.2 m s-1. The brakes are applied when the car is fully on board.
If the centre of the car is a perpendicular distance of 1.1 m from the centre, calculate the angular momentum of the the car and turntable, about the centre of the turntable.

m=1140 kg
VT= 4.2 m/s
R=1.1 m

we know that the formula for angular momentum is:
L= R*m*VT
L= 1.1*1140*4.2
L= 5267

Question: how did we get the formula for L?
we know that F is rate of change of linear momentum
F= deltaP/delta t **** we know P=mv so we substitute
F= delta mv/delta t **** multiply both sides by r
r*F= delta rmv/delta t **** we know r*F is torque and we know that Torque is rate of change of angular momentum so
torque= delta rmv/delta t = delta L/delta t **** put equal the nominators in the last two equations
L= r*m*v
