Turntable 78 Rpm How fast is 78rpm for a vinyl to be recording on a pc?
I am searching to buy a USB Turntable and trying to compare and contrast prices with features. I was wondering how fast is 78 rpm recording a vinyl equivalent to. If their are any recommendations please share them thanks.
78 rpm is the rotational speed of the platter, a standard from about 1900 to 1950. No 78s are vinyl, they are hard lacquer. Vinyl and LP records came in the mid-1950s and are still in use. Since the output is analog, there is no file parameters or "data rate" associated with the motor rotation, they all make the same sound. The purpose of the USB is to bypass the computer's internal sound card which is a good idea. My preference is to use a high quality analog turntable and run that to a USB mixer as i like to balance tracks and set levels prior to recording in the computer. I use a Stanton STR8-80 which has a 78 rpm setting. Finding standard needles or cartriges for non-microgroove (78s) records is near impossible.

I am thinking about buying a Sony PS-LX250H turntable, and it says it doesn't play 78' rpm vinyls, only 33.3 and 45 rpm's. Is this bad? Like how many vinyls out of how many are 78's? Also i would pretty much only buy new artist vinyls and such.
well, i also have 60's-70's rock vinyls and those are pretty much all 45's
I don't see why you would limit yourself to new artist vinyl, but I don't think that's a bad thing, most vinyl I have are 33 or 45rpm's in speed, but that's all 70's and 80's metal.
