High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A transducer is a device that converts one type of energy to another. The conversion can be to/from electrical, electromechanical, electromagnetic, photonic, photovoltaic, or any other form of energy. While the term transducer commonly implies use as a sensor/detector, any device which converts energy can be considered a transducer.Transducers may be categorized by application: Sensor, actuator, or combination.A sensor is used to detect a parameter in one form and report it in another form of energy (usually an electrical and/or digital signal). For example, a pressure sensor might detect pressure (a mechanical form of energy) and convert it to electricity for display at a remote gauge. This innovative and reliable undersaddle pickup is less than 1/32" thick and contains a film sensor laminated between layers of Kapton and then laser-trimmed to its final form. The key feature that separates the RT from other pickups is that its sensor is responsive to vibration but not to pressure. This minimizes that unpleasant, dry, stringy sound that is characteristic of pressure-sensitive undersaddle pickups. As the guitar top moves with the vibrations of the strings, so does the RT sensor, naturally reflecting the actual sound and dynamics of your guitar. The patented RT component is manufactured to ISO 9001 specs and is about as high-tech as it gets. The sensor material is ultrasensitive 28-micron-thin PVDF and boasts a linear frequency response to 50khz. A special pad is adhered to the bottom of the pickup to compensate for minor irregularities in the saddle slot, insuring easy installation with great balance. The sensor runs the full length of the pickup and will work with any string spacing with no dead spots or frustrating balance problems. The Ribbon Transducer may be plugged directly into many musical instrument amplifiers, effects and outboard preamps. If used passively, the RT pickup must be plugged into a high-impedance, high-gain, high-quality preamp. However, for most users, we recommend using one of L.R. Baggs' RT-compatible systems.

The Dean Markley Artist Transducer is simple and effective. A small transducer, housed in a maple disk, sticks to the surface of your guitar near the bridge with a special adhesive. The adhesive allows the Dean Markley transducer to be removed and re-stuck many times without affecting your guitar's finish. This Dean Markley pickup also works great on violins, cellos, mandolins, pianos, even horns.

The LR Baggs Radius, a tiny wonder of a pickup, is specially developed for the mandolin, violin, and other high-voiced instruments. At the heart of the pickup's transducer is a highly flexible beam with a .004" thin film sensor, similar to mic diaphragm material, attached to its surface. The beam is held in equilibrium and damped by opposing Neodymium magnets, another LR Baggs innovation. The sensor floats between the magnets and is not bogged down in viscous fluid or clamped between elastomeric pads, so it is completely free to respond instantly to the smallest nuance without artifact or coloration. Also, the magnets are tuned to progressively damp the sensor and respond naturally to the dynamics of the musical instrument. The frequency response is linear, silky-smooth, and accurate with an astonishing natural and effortless sound. Unlike most soundboard transducers, the Radius pickup is also very tolerant to placement and works well in a variety of locations. The output of the device is quite strong, allowing passive use with a normal-length cord without a preamp into most acoustic amps. The case is injection-molded of a non-resonant conductive ABS material developed in collaboration with a respected plastics manufacturer. The CAD-designed case acts like a vault for the transducer, insuring ultra quiet operation. The LR Baggs Radius pickup may be mounted to the outside surface of the instrument with a removable, non-destructive adhesive or to the inside with VHB adhesive. The Radius "kit" includes adhesive, a 1/4" stereo jack, and a side mount jack holder to enable internal or external mounting.Highly flexible beam with .004" film sensor Neodymium magnets Mounts internally or externally Permanent or removable installation

Hollow Body Electric Guitars Make Sweet Music

Hollow body electric guitar is also called semi acoustic guitar. It consists of more than one electric pickups and a sound box. It is not similar to any other electric guitar, which has other amplification added by player or the manufacturer. This instrument is primarily designed with amplifier. The sound box is specifically used to produce amplified sound which is not possible by any other solid instruments. The other acoustic and semi-acoustic electric instruments are mandolins and bases. The construction of these guitars is similar to other semi-acoustic electric guitars and has the same limitations as semi-acoustic guitars and are used in the same way as acoustic guitars.

Some guitars are border line between solid body and hollow body electric guitars. Telecaster guitars fall under this category. Some of the guitars have complete hollow body, while others may have solid centre. Hollow body guitars produce richer tone when compared to solid body. An amplifier can be connected to semi-acoustic guitars for a louder sound. This sound cannot be produced by an ordinary guitar. Hollow body electric guitars are considered as ever green and are the favorite guitars for jazz players and band troops.

Gibson, Rickenbacker and Gretsch are one of the top most manufacturers of these types of guitars. In the recent years several manufacturers are producing different new models of these guitars but they cannot beat the top brands listed. No matters how many new guitar models enter into the market the reputation of the top manufacturers of hollow body electric guitars stands on their own merit and is demonstrated by high consumer demand.

When comparing solid body guitars with others, they are heavier in weight than semi-acoustic guitars. In hollow guitars additional chambers are utilized to produce loud sounds and the size of the body is also reduced. There is, however, a negative point about these guitars and that is that they face problems in conditions of high gain amplification. In this situation the sound chambers produces undesireable feedback.

Semi-acoustic guitars consist of pickups which are similar to electric guitars. They have an empty body that helps in producing unique sounds. Electric acoustic, semi acoustic and hollow body are interchangeable terms used for electric guitars. Acoustic guitars consists of pickups where as electric guitars consists of sound chamber. Acoustic electrics and electric acoustics are considered as electric guitars designed with piezoelectric transducers, electromagnetic pickups or condenser microphones. Electric acoustic guitars will not fall under either category of semi-acoustic or hollow body electric guitars. They are entirely unique from these two guitars. Semi-acoustic guitars consist of solid block within.

The most important thing to bear in mind when looking for a hollow body electric guitar is to stick with the most popular manufacturers who have stood the test of time. After all, they've been around awhile for a reason! These products will definitely be of a higher quality than other lesser-known brands.
