Buying an Intermediate flute.?
I am going to be a freshman in High School next year and hope to buy a more advanced flute soon. I am very advanced for my age, being 4th chair out of 7 flutes in the Top Band at my High School. I am going to keep with flute all through high school and through college. The flute I use now, I got for christmas 2 years ago. My mom ordered it without me knowing and so when it arrived, it was closed-holed instead of open-holed. Beside it not being open-holed it has exceptional quality and tone. But, I don't really feel like i have a advanced enough flute, being the only one at my school with a closed-holed flute. I know I can play an open-hole one perfectly fine. I want at least an intermediate flute to use at concerts during high school. (I plan to use my current one for marching) I am looking at Pearl flutes but none of the sites have prices. But idk....
What Brands, features, etc... should I look for to get an intermediate/advanced flute?
P.S. Are gold lip plates okay???
Pearl is a good brand choice, and there's nothing wrong with gold lip plates - they often result in a warmer tone.
My other advice would be to try before you buy! Go to a music store that will let you play test various brands and models so you can be sure you're getting the instrument you are most comfortable with. Often, even with the same brand and model, instruments will differ from one to the next, so you will want to play on whatever they have so that you will be making an informed purchase.

Gold Tone OB-175 Banjo $1094 The Gold Tone OB-175 Banjo represents a breakthrough in price for this quality of banjo. Gold Tone teamed up with a very small woodworking factory in Korea and for a year taught them techniques to establish a model superior to any Chinese product in this price range. This is Gold Tone's first ever Bell Bronze Pre-War Alloy Tone Ring Banjo. For over a year they experimented with bronze alloys trying to find the perfect tone. The pre-war tone ring (the holy grail of bluegrass tone) was actually at least three different bronze alloy formulas, depending on the year of manufacture. Gold Tone discovered these 3 alloys, had tone rings made from each one, and chose the bronze alloy content with the most penetrating tone.Their GTR Tone Ring shape has a rounded top edge, which compared to the typical sharp angle on the common flat top ring adds more contact area for vibration transfer. This allows the head to be tuned tighter if desired. The original and the Gold Tone ring look and sound amazingly similar. The OB-175 has perfect fitting parts. This small factory is capable of the perfect tone ring fit, the perfect neck to pot fit, and a perfectly straight neck. Before delivery, Gold Tone do all the final assembly and adjustments in Florida. They check every adjustment to make sure the set-up is optimum for tone and playability.Plus this comes standard with their Lifetime Warrenty, which is also transferable.
