I just started using an old turntable that was handed down to me the other week and bought a few records on ebay, some of which would play fine and others which had a ton of skips all over the place. When taking a closer look at those records there didn't seem to be any major scratches so I was wondering how to get them to play well.
I had already maxed out the counterweight setting, so I ended up placing a penny on top of the head-shell and they now play without skipping. Is doing this bad for the records or any part of the turntable (needle or tonearm)? Will it create any long term damage?
