Turntable (Technics 1200) Questions?
Im planning on getting my first pair of decks over Thanksgiving break in about a week. Ive been saving up money doing gigs off of an M-Audio Xponent and plan on buying them over Craigslist. The thing is, I'm kind of apprehensive as to the hardware maintenance and keep-up of turntables such as cartridge/stylus replacement... I was just wondering if it's difficult or complicated to replace a cartridge. Also, what types of needles/carts are best to start off with if i dont want to spend $400 at first? Thanks in advance, & if theres anything else i need to know, please tell me.
Back in the day Stanton was always robust enough for DJ use because you could spin them backwards with no issues. Shure cartridges always sounded better but were too delicate for anything other than home use.
Simple to mount, first connect all of the wires correctly, then mount with 2 screws onto the tonearm shell then set your weight indicators to zero then adjust your counterweight on the back of the tonearm until it just barely touched the record. This is zero grams. Now set to the cartridge suggested force, typically 2 grams.
