What Stylus Goes To My SL-D2 Turntable?
i recently bought a technics SL-D2 turntable the needle is gone thought i mean it's there but non existent in terms of being able to use the needle it has on it says ADC K8E on it and whenever i search for needles that never comes up as the replacement stylus so if anyone know's if that's the correct needle or what the correct one is i'd be very happy thank you
Most used turntables will end up having a different cartridge on them than the one that came installed. It was very common for people to change the whole cartridge as an upgrade... or if they went to a few stores and couldn't find the proper replacement stylus for the cartridge they had. We didn't have internet shopping back then... lol.
If the broken stylus fits properly, you have an ADC cartridge that takes a K8E stylus. Genuine ADC replacements are still available online from several sources. Just Google for "ADC K8E stylus". You could get a generic replacement a little cheaper, but sound quality usually does suffer a bit.
If you wanted, you could go with a whole new cartridge. Any standard 1/2" mount cartridge will fit the removable headshell on your SL-D2. ADC made some nice cartridges though. You'd probably have to spend over $50.00 to equal it these days, so a replacement stylus for the old ADC is probably the best way to go. Not much can go wrong with a cartridge body. They do have tiny wires inside that can corrode through eventually, particularly if stored in a harsh environment. But, I use several vintage cartridges with no problems. New cartridges of similar quality as the ADC would probably be something like the Audio Technica AT95E or AT110E... Shure M97xE if you'd prefer a "warmer" sound with richer mids and less energy at the frequency extremes.
Good luck! Hope you enjoy your Technics / ADC combo. Nice stuff!
