I bought a 196"s motorola stereo any now I need to find somethings for it?
I would like to find a manual, a diamond stylus, and an anntnea for it so that I can listen to all of it instead of just the AM stations. If anyone knows of somewhere I can look or someone I can call please let me know. I tried motorola but they had no clue.
The diamond stylus can come from Radio Shack, and they can answer most other questions about it. Its not much different than a modern home theatre receiver.
For an antenna, it takes the uncomplicated version of rabbit ears (just 2 rods) and flat wire (twin lead). Of course, you could just use a pair of 31 inch wires (like single strands of cheap plastic covered speaker wire).
The manual is probably unimportant, except for one little thing. If it has an "A" switch and a "B" switch, that corresponds to speaker outlets on the back. Pushing in a switch that activates an empty speaker outlet would make it very upset and to blow an internal fuse. Radio Shack also has the fuses, just in case. Better yet, if it has A&B, hook up 4 speakers (2 pairs), so that little problem never has to happen. Less expensive models don't have the A&B thing.
You can also find an 1/8" stereo plug to 2 RCA plugs cable. This can hook up an mp3 player or a little CD player or even a computer as the sound source. It plugs into "AUX" or "Tape Play" outlet (doesn't matter which).
If the record player portion isn't built in, then it will have 3 wires. Two are easily identifiable RCA plugs. One is a little "U" shaped thingy. That's a ground wire and it just goes to any chassis screw on the metal back of the receiver--especially the one marked "Phonograph Ground" for convenience. 
Believe it or not, there's been very few changes in home audio since the 1960's, and your 1960's stereo can probably produce a more accurate sound than its modern versions.
Receivers of that era, and through most of the 70's too, operated with a universally similar interface, so any old stereo manual could probably cover the simplistic operation just fine.
For headphones, Radio Shack still has the large plug headphones in stock, and they also have converters and extenstion cables. These are also used on the modern home theater stereos too.
One oddball thing is that ten 1960's "watts" is about the same as eighty "watts" output today. I'm saying that the old stereos love huge speakers and there's hardly ever a lack of force to push the biggest speakers you can find. Actually, at the time, it wasn't about force, but that large speakers are naturally clearer with HIgh FIdelity--thus, HI FI sound. Enjoy it!
