People who recycle appliances,and old electronics that come to the end of a useful life,are generally getting rid of them,and all of those items end up being thrown away all of the time,because a lot of people today are “very lazy” not do a complete restoration on those items anymore,because no one knows the mechanics in them inside and out,or what makes them work,or what makes them tick.Where I live here in Danvers,I don’t recycle any of the old electronics that come to the end of a useful life when I see them going to the landfill,what I do,is pick them up,bring them home to my workshop,and I check them out to see if they are working anymore.If they are not,then I unplug the items,open them up,vacuum them out,and check the power supply,as well as do a complete restoration on the items,by simply put”Repairing,cleaning up,and restoring,and refurbishing”these items so once I do fix them up and get them working again,they will look very nice,and do a little bit of the restoration work on the cabinet if any,as well as removing all of the old grime and lubricants,and put on new ones,as well as replace some parts,and look at the cosmetics,and see what needs to be shined up to make it look like new.Fixing up all of the old stuff,is like restoring an old car that needs a lot of attention,and does need so much work to get it going again.There are some restoration websites out there on the internet I am sure,where people like me,you,and others can talk about your restoration projects,and so much more.I myself had to do some restoration work on my 1965/1966 Magnavox mini-console stereo hi-fi set,and the audio amplifier works okay,but the turntable which is a Magnavox Micromatic was acting sluggish,because the spring underneath the turntable platter was not right,and I had to do a little adjustment to the spring,so I hope to try it out,and see what happens.I also happen to have an old 1960′s RCA Victor console stereo phonograph which I hope to get it all restored.I got the cabinet shined up,with some Scott’s Liquid Gold,and I will have to check out the audio amplifier,and the old tubes in it,and see how it goes,then I will be able to try out some of my old records on both the Magnavox and the RCA one.I really love to restore the old stuff.It is great you know,and excellent therapy too.They do have one website called Restoration Stories.com and you can check them out at had a PBS special on the TV program,and they do have a VHS Video or a DVD of the episodes you can find if any.They also have one place called Audio Classics.com located in Vestal,New York they have everything in audio and video,check them out at is Retro Electronics and Audio Lab in Midland,Texas.They are on the internet at fix up just about everything from A-Z.They fix up old vans,trucks,juke boxes,old hi-fi sets,old radios,TV sets,you name it,they fix it.Check out the websites.Instead of having all of these cities and towns having recycling programs for appliances,and electronics and other things,and getting all of those items collected up so they end up in a trash truck being crushed up to go to the landfill and sold as scrap metal,we should save these items from going to a “very horrible death”,and doing a complete restoration on these items,so they do not end up being thrown away anymore.Once you recycle all of this stuff,you and others are throwing it all away,because these items do have a soul,and need a lot of restoration to getting it working again.One person on a You Tube website had an old RCA Victor floor model radio from the 1930′s-1940′s that was slated to go to the landfill,and the chassis was in an old basement,and then ended up in an old barn where the bad weather got at it,and what he did,was completely fixed it up,and restored it,and got it working again.When he gets the cabinet all restored,once it is all assembled it will look really nice,and look beautiful again to listen to the big band,and all of the old music on it,and his family will see an old radio that they have never seen before all restored back to beautiful working condition.Yes,old electronics,and old appliances etc,do not need to wind up being recycled anymore,what they need is a complete restoration,and a lot of refurbishing.Thanks.
