Speed Off Shaft
i've got a non-working speedometer , how do i get it to work again ?
i have a printed circuit, on the instrument cluster, which has the (electrical ) speed sensor type of speedometer. but, the transmission has been changed to a 700 r4 camero trans. it is a gear driven hookup, for the speedometer. the 700 r4 trans tail shaft was taken off , and the tailshaft for the speed sensor ( electrical ) of the 1990 origional trans was coupled to it, so that the electrical wires from my speedometer could hook up. but i still have no working speedometer. it is a 1990 1/2 ton 350 automatic, siverado, how do i cheaply do watever i have to do, to have a working speedometer again ? -----ron @sbcglobal.net thank-you
You changed the tail shaft itself? Or just the housing...the speed sensor setup has an "armature" kind of gear on it, rather than the "helical" gear used on mechanical speedometers. Also, the air gap is critical for the sensor to read right.
It's possible that you broke a wire or the sensor too...
