Sony Turntables Speeds

How to set the platter speed on my turntable?
There's something really weird going on here:
I have a brand new Sony PS LX350H. See what occurs: the platter speed keeps changing BY ITSELF! For example: The pitch control key is on 0%, but the speed is sometimes okay and sometimes faster or slower! I have no idea of how to fix it. Can anybody please help me?
A little bit of speed drift is normal on a lower-priced table like this with an electronically controlled DC motor. You would notice the strobe dots beginning to move very slowly in one direction or another after being set perfectly. Although, there are several complaints about this table concerning more severe and audible variations in speed than are normal (Amazon.com customer reviews). Some people report no problems with speed stability.

If you're having worse problems than what would be considered normal, it could be you got one of the bad ones and a new replacement would behave better. Hopefully you purchased from a place with a good return / exchange policy. Could be a "scratchy" pitch control that might be cured with a shot of plastic safe contact cleaner / lubricant. There may be another PC board mounted control for fine-tuning speed that could be dirty, slightly corroded or problematic. Might just be the motor or some other part that's defective and not performing to spec. Since it's new, it would probably be best to exchange it if possible and not mess with it yourself.
Good luck! Hope you end up with a table that operates as it should for your money

Sony PS-22 Turntable Not Playing right!?
Hey all,
I have a problem with my turntable, when playing 33rpm vinyl's & 45's.
It constantly sounds out of tune, best way to describe the sound is wavering.
It has only been doing it for a few weeks, but it means i cant play any vinyls.
before you ask, i have been setting the speeds correctly each time, and have tried using the fine tune feature for each of the speeds.
I know this turntable is direct drive.
Thanks
A
Something might be rubbing against the inside of the platter. Carefully lift it off and have a look. (There may be a little clip to 'ping' off once you've removed the rubber mat) Also you'll probably see some sort of drive linkage, maybe gearwheels under there. Try giving them a light smear with vaseline, in case they need a bit of lubrication. Other than that, it could be the motor, in which case the only remedy would be to get a new motor.
