what should a pet robot have?
i want to build a pet robot and i am not sure if i should build a robot dog or a robotic turtle. also i would like the suggestionss of the yahoo community on what realistic features the robot should have not any fantasy like feature. i would also like to make it have the features like sony's aibo and the i-cybie had and have. i would also like to make the operating system linux based. the robot would be for security and entertainment reasons and educational. also does any one know were i can get servos and motors like the ones in robosapien and robopet? i can not find ones small like them.

build a pet turtle... dogs have too much personality and dependency to even begin to mimic. if you can mimic any of these characteristics: turtles like heat and they eat alot of different things. they will eat a worm straight out of your garden. they eat veggies and fruits too =]
if you feed them meat often their shells get a ridge of knobs that later start to take on the shape of spikes. pretty cool if you want a pet that looks mean and cool... they hibernate (most kinds do) in the winter. they arent as slow as they are made up to be... my moms pet turtle ran away when she was little =} i dont know hoow much of this you would be able or willing to mimic but its a little simpler but much more boring than a complex dog would be. have fun =D

Sony LTX400GWW LTO-3 Ultrium Tape Is Designed For Long Term Durability
LTX400GWW is a high performance ultrium cartridge developed by Sony based on the LTO-3 tape format. The Sony LTO-3 tape like its previous version LTO-2 and LTO-1 tape, also incorporates a memory chip capable of storing valuable information of 4KB. The cartridge memory not only accelerates the process of file access but it also contributes to the significant increase of media access speed in tape libraries. Breakthrough technologies employed to the LTX400GWW LTO-3 tape assure high density recording in a cost effective manner. Sony has developed a new robust base film for the high capacity LTO-3 tape cartridge which incorporates an advanced and robust weather resistant magnetic material which has improved the smoothness of ultrium tape media. The increased packing density leads to reduction in noise level and improvement of data throughput.
Sony LTO-3 tape features newly designed highly robust base film. Higher S/N ratio is essential in order to ensure efficient high density recording, therefore, Sony has added new techniques in LTO-3 ultrium technology to improve the S/N ratio so that the performance and efficiency of high density recording can be assured by utilizing the magneto resistive heads. Highly innovative lubricant and back surface design of Sony LTX400GWW media tape increases the media’s durability and lowers the tracking errors. Special servo writer has been engineered by Sony for linear tape open technology whose purpose is to increase the strength of magnetic servo signals. This leads to increased overall efficiency. Thickness of tape reel has been significantly reduced in order to attain higher recording capability of the Sony LTO-3 cartridge. Back surface design was re-engineered by Sony for the LTX400GWW ultrium tape so that optimum tape winding and smooth tape travel could be ensured. Thinner tape reel of Sony LTO-3 data tape optimizes the performance level and assures increased recording efficiency. New lubricant has been used by Sony for its ultrium-3 backup tapes.
