Sony Record can any of the Sony Cybershot record video?
just wanted to ask if any of the Sony Cybershot digital cameras can record video. Does not matter if it is not HD. Because I had a fuji camera and it recorded video and took pictures. I wanted to get a Sony.
I think they should, but just wanted to hear from those that have one!
My wife has a pink Sony Cybershot S980 and it does video with sound. I don't know about the other colors though.

Sony’s Ame & Advanced Technologies in Ait Tape Format
We can say that recording (magnetic) media & Sony are synonymous. First magnetic tape was introduced by Sony Company in Japan during the year 1950. That first data tape from Sony was paper based. 50 year after that the AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) technology from Sony set the standards in consumer & professional video and data recording.
AIT data tape format has gained popularity and growth in both consumer and professional marketplaces. AIT tape format with the help of AME technology can store large volumes of data in tape cartridge of smaller size, provide highest quality of digital recording and the recording time is also longer. The magnetic layer of the conventional data tapes is mixed with magnetic liquid paint and then afterwards via application of roller type or an extrusion is applied to film’ base with a binder. This binder is like glue. So in this way the magnetic material of the coating that is active is only about fifty percent.
AME process utilizes electron-beam gun of high energy. The cobalt material (pure metal) is vaporized in vacuum by the beam gun and then for coating it is directly deposited on base film. A structure of crystal columnar is formed and with the structure of base film it has molecular bond. So, there is no need of adhesive binder for the purpose of holding together the base film and magnetic layer. As there is no utilization of binder by the AMT data tape, so the coating is unadulterated, virtually pure and material is magnetically active. AIT data tape is very much thinner and the surface of tape is extremely smooth. Therefore, the tape amount in the magnetic tape cartridge is reduced than the conventional data tape.
The Sony AME mechanism even further takes the evaporation process. The previous “metal evaporated” tapes had the nickel alloys while in AIT data tapes having AME technology utilize pure cobalt material. It has protective layer of DLC (diamond like carbon). The purpose of this layer is to prevent shedding. This protection layer also helps to resist dropout for archival stability and high durability during the production of higher output levels of playback signal in comparison to the tapes having metal particles.
AIT tape format with the help of AME technology can store large volumes of data in tape cartridge of smaller size, provide highest quality of digital recording and the recording time is also longer. Sony AME process in used in AIT, AIT2, recording applications of mammoth & mammoth 2 and is also utilized for the tape production of video systems of DV consumers and professional format of Sony DVCAM. It is the goal to constantly get shorter & shorter wavelength. If the data interval is shorter then the user can get more information on the media. All this is made possible with the AME technology. Wavelengths that are extremely short can be recorded by the tape. And even then have enough energy for reading off the tape a healthy signal.
In 1989, the evaporated metal tape standard was introduced as consumer product for video recorders of Hi-8 format by Sony. In the format of ultra small NT (digital professional audio recorder), ME with double layer was deployed. Sony then over the years made improvements and advancements to the metal evaporated tape and then afterwards the AME technology in the year 1996. AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) technology from Sony is considered as heart of its AIT (advanced intelligent tape) & digital storage systems of Mammoth.
