Songs Record
How do I record songs onto my computer?
I started this small band with a group of friends and I was wondering how do I record our songs onto the computer? What software/equipment do I need?
Also, how do you alter voices? You know, like how T-Pain does lol. Like making your voice more robotic or sound different
If you want to do it the budget way:
Get a line in or usb dynamic microphone and plug it straight in and use the free software Audacity to record (or Garageband if you are lucky to have a mac).
The good way:
Obtain a condenser microphone and use it with an audio interface and plug the interface into your computer and edit the stuff that way.
The professional way:
Obtain a set of drum mics snare, hi hat, kick etc and assemble them. Use a condenser with pop shield on any vocals and without shield for instruments such as acoustic guitar. Use a dynamic mic on guitar amps and generally condensers on anything else. Plug all of these things into a mixing desk preferably one which is a direct control for software and use protools or logic software to process the audio.
As for editing any audio processor be it $600 + or free has editing features such as vocoding (for robotic voices).

It was released first in the United States on a 2 disc limited edition vinyl LP on August 25, 2009, then released on CD on September 22. The album is a collaboration with Connick and record producer Clive Davis. Most of the songs are chosen by record producer Clive Davis, who aimed towards classic, familiar songs, as contemporary as possible. Davis had expressed an interest in working with Connick, who at first did not know what that meant, as he had never done such a collaboration before. Connick had an idea of bringing in a famous arranger for the album, but Davis suggested for Connick to do the arrangements himself, and he did. Sacred Songs $6.99 This 1999 reissue contains two bonus tracks taken from Robert Fripp's EXPOSURE LP.Personnel includes: Daryl Hall (vocals); Robert Fripp (guitar).Includes liner notes by Robert Fripp.All tracks have been digitally remastered.In what must be the most bizarre coupling ever, Hall is accompanied by none other than King Crimson figurehead Robert Fripp on production and, of course, on guitar. This record suffered at the hands of record company mismanagement. Originally recorded in 1977, Sacred Songs wasn't granted a release until 1980. RCA worried about Hall's lack of commercial vision. However Hall and Fripp's creativity strangely works. Sure, there are pieces that wouldn't do as singles, but for an album regarded as being so uncommercial, there are plenty that could have been: the wacky title song, "Something in 4/4 Time," "Farther Away," and "Why Was It So Easy" (the latter being one of Hall's best ballads). Most bonkers of all is "Babs and Babs," a straight-ahead Daryl Hall track until a Fripp soundscape kicks in from nowhere! Fripp's own "Urban Landscape" shows him having withdrawal symptoms from Bowie's infamous Heroes sessions. The onward march of studio technology means that the sound here is slightly dated. Songs for the Ravens $17.98 Sea of Bees is the name chosen by one-woman band Julie Ann Baenziger for her recording projects. Baenziger grew up in California's central valley and didn't get interested in playing music until she was in her mid-teens, although a crush on a girl singer in her church choir did make her aware of music's power to sooth and wound the open heart. Baenziger eventually taught herself guitar, bass, piano, and various percussion instruments. Indie producer John Baccigaluppi, and publisher of Tape Op magazine, heard her playing in an empty recording studio and was impressed by the fragile quality of her vocals and the quiet beauty of her songs. He taught her how to use Pro-Tools and she cut her first record, Bee Eee Pee EP, in one afternoon. The EP's low-key charm got her a deal with Crossbill, and the 11-track album, Songs for the Ravens, is the result. Baenziger still plays most of the instruments on this recording, but had some help from a posse of noted indie rockers including Vetiver's Andy Cabic and Grandaddy's James Neil. The tunes are an eclectic bunch sporting cryptic names. "Skinnybone" is a sweet love song highlighted by twinkling glockenspiel and warm, multi-tracked harmony vocals: the bouncy beat of "Sidepain" takes some of the sting away from a lyric that details a night spent in brokenhearted drunkenness; "Fyre" is a song of yearning passion that drowns in a sea of staccato guitar and ambient noise; and the quiet folk rock of "Wizbot" makes it another song of unattainable love that starts out with acoustic guitar and Baenziger's quietly distressed vocal and builds slowly to a wrenching climax. The lo-fi production often makes Baenziger's laments hard to decipher, but her delicate voice drips with a heartache and loneliness that makes the tunes hard to resist. ~ j. poet |
