Help with Small Electric Motors!?

ok, im making a design in technology A level and I came up with a problem, i basicly want this lighting feature to rotate slowly like a turntable, but DC motors seems to be way to fast and adding a resistor might stop it from rotating at all, can you please tell me an alternative way to make something rotate slowly? without it being way tooooo complicated, i thought about using a microwave turntable motor, but i think it requires too much power and could be dangerous. using batteries would be prefered THANKS!

What about some kind of belt drive system like belt drive turntables use? A motor that turns fast with a very small pulley and a large pulley on whatever you want to rotate.
