Shure Stylist
what would you do to become a hair stylist?
should i go to a beauty school or should i go to a tech school? which one looks more better?
is there any way to make my self sort of "higher?" im shure not everyone would hire me right after only two years?
is there a difference or is it worth it if i go to tech college and then beauty school? or is one enough?
what's your idea of a great plan?
-im a high school senior-
i want to maybe in the future open up my own salon, so should i take program at tech college for cosmetology then transfer to a 4 year university and major in business and marketing?

School doesn't have a thing to do with your professional ethic. Its all about how you present yourself, and what you learn in school. Of course some schools are better than others but it depends on your instructor. And some people just have a higher talent or passion for doing hair. If you are good at what you do, and enjoy it you will not have a problem getting hired. However most salon's pay differently than most jobs. Many rent a booth to you so therefore you are your own boss you pay for the spot, buy your own products, furnish your own tools and have to build a clientele. Salon's that do have a set hourly wage also pay commission so it is up to you how much you make. Then some salon's work on a commission base. Finding a job is not an issue. If you have a good personality, and a since of style you will do good. The amount of clients that you have is your reputation. In looking for a school the first thing to do is make sure the instructors check behind the students cuts. If not go somewhere else. Then reference prior students to see their success in the industry.
One of the best ways to gain more experience is to start out in the mall or really busy location, but keep in mind where u really hope to work and always keep track of your clients. Treat them good, send B-day cards, Take baby's first haircut pictures, etc.
Just know that in the hair business it is not ez to move from city to city because building a client base is not a quick process. It takes time so before you spend all the time in school make sure you know that its not walk in and make great money overnight. And every time you move to a new city you start back a beginning salary. But if you have a good personality, and can sell yourself you will do good. Hope this Helps
