California employer appealing my unemployment claim.. HELP!?
I was a PE teacher at a private school and was laid off. I collected unemployment until I got a job at Whole Foods Market. During the orientation on Sept. 15 I noticed a sore throat and achiness. I began work shortly after and stayed sick. I went to doc and got a blood test for Mono. I was diagnosed with mono and continued to work and didn't say anything cause i didnt want to get fired. Finally, I couldn't do it anymore and went to doc to get a note for time off. I got a week off and told the HR person at WF what i had. They gave me time off. I then got another note for more time off due to fatigue. At that point WF let me go because i had no leave of abscence available. I applied for EDD benefits and was approved but now WF is appealing that decision. Will i lose the hearing? What could they possibly say that would overrule the decision. I only worked there a month..
Any ideas/advice/info would be great.
Thanks
scott
You got fired for cause, that is, your employer fired you because you worked in a food based industry, had a contagious disease, worked anyway, and endangered the public, AND you put your employer at risk (for having a contagious employee working). That's what they could say, and they'll probably win, too.
I certainly don't want contagious workers handling MY food, or coming into contact with me in any way. You were extremely irresponsible.
