Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jeff Healey was raised in the citys west end. He was adopted as an infant; his adoptive father was a firefighter. When he was eight months old, Healey lost his sight to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes. The eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given artificial replacements. Healey began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap. American jazz pianist Oscar Peterson had been a great influence on him early on. Haloscan.com is a free service. They also have a special way to put it into Blogger accounts for those who don't like to use HTML code.
