How much it cost replacement of timing belt and water pump in 1999 VW jetta 2.0 with 93000mile?

I have 1999 Vw Jetta and the timing belt look Ok but becoz of the miles in the car i am replacing it the mechanic ask me $500 icluding parts and labor is it reasonable?

Actually, that's high. I paid $220 3 years ago. I just had a 2.0 Cabrio done for $265 last month. That's for both parts and labor. I would call a couple of local shops and get quotes. They can do this over the phone. Avoid the Stealership!

Good job on keeping up on the maintenance, especially replacing the water pump at the same time. Most people forget about the water pump and regret it later.
