Soma Records (U.S. Label) $65.33 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Soma Records was an American record company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and owned by wholesale record distributor Amos Heilicher. The Soma name was Amos spelled backwards. Heilicher, along with his brother Danny, was also in the jukebox business and owned the Musicland chain of retail music stores. Started in 1957, Soma began mainly recording polka music, oldtime, country and western and jazz groups. Their first hit was Bobby Vees 1959 Suzie Baby, which was a giant regional smash before Liberty Records bought up the master and issued it nationally. Among hits released by Soma were Mule Skinner Blues by The Fendermen, Liar, Liar by The Castaways, Run, Run, Run by The Gestures and Surfin Bird by The Trashmen. The last record was on the Garrett label and was distributed by Soma. George Garrett was an engineer who ran the board on many Soma recordings. Soma recorded many local and regional rock groups during the 1960s, including The Accents, Gregory Dee and The Avanties, The Underbeats, and The Del Counts, as well as distributing other smaller labels (Garrett, Bangar, Golden Ring, to name a few). Surfin' Bird vs. The Bird's The Word Trashmen vs. The Rivingtons from 1963
What movie is this Family Guy scene a reference to?
In "I Dream of Jesus" (the episode where Jesus returns and becomes a celebrity), Peter gets a record of the song "Surfin' Bird" and plays it non-stop. Eventually Stewie and Brian are collapsed on the couch, worn down by the non-stop song, and blood is trickling out of Stewie's nose as he says "I don't feel so good." Now, everything I've been able to find says this is a reference to Cloverfield, a fairly recent movie. But I've never seen Cloverfield, and I'm convinced there's an earlier movie that has a scene like this. My memory says it was something of an apocalyptic or dark movie, and there are people are dying of some kind of illness (maybe just these particular characters), which is why there's scene with a couple of people sitting together with blood trickling out of one's nose while music plays in the background. Am I just imagining this, or was there a movie like that?
