My father is changing doctors and he wants to get his records from his current doctor sent to the new doctor so the new doctor has a full background on his health. His current doctor said he will not send the records. What is the law regarding someone's medical records? Is the patient entitled to those records or can the doctor refuse to transfer them to a new doctor?

Well, what usually happens when you go to a new doctor you will fill out some paperwork allowing the new doctor's office to request your medical records from a previous doctor...usually your previous primary care physician. Once you sign the release for the records to be transferred there is no legal issue.

What Are Marriage Records?
Marriage records are a way to organize all the different documents that come along with getting married. These documents include marriage licenses and marriage certificates. The Marriage license is considered the most important aspect of a marriage record because it’s a legal document that proves a couple was legally married in the United States and it’s given to the couple directly after their ceremony. A marriage certificate is signed by the person who officiated the ceremony and legally declared a couple married and is also given to the couple after the ceremony. Both of these documents are included in the marriage records. Each state has it’s own regulations and process regarding marriage records and where the records can be found. Within a state, each county may also have it’s own rules and locations where the records are kept and what information they hold. Generally, the information kept in marriage records includes the names of the bride and groom and the location and date of the marriage. It’s important that the people looking at marriage records are kept track of. By asking all these questions, the identities of the people are available to police in case something life threatening happens or a crime is committed. Security is very important in this day-and-age and this includes making sure that only the right people are accessing marriage records. Marriage records can be very useful when it comes to researching a family tree and can act as a step towards finding out more about your family history.
