Record Player Stylus Replacement
Want to know of a brand and model of radiogram or record player that would have played 331/3, 45, 78 rpm?
From late fifties early sixties. And did they use the same stylus for all types? Seem to remember the cartridge having a dual stylus, the housing turning over. Was this for different types of discs or just a replacement when one wore out. Needed for work of fiction. Thanks.
78 RPM records glass/shellac) used a large point stylus
later they produced so called micro groove records in plastic as the
LP (long Playing) and EP (extended play) disk
45/33 1/3 used a smaller stylus.. . hence the change over
Use the
- large one in 45/33 records and it both damage the groove and be liable to jump out
- small one in 78 records, and it sits too low in the groove, is noisy (as it not expected to be /has well formed grooves there) and gets caught up in the dirt that accumulates but not normally moved out by the correct stylus.
And upto the CD came out in the 80's, (not the 60's) they were the norm,
though some Hifi record decks stopped supporting 78 as a speed in 70/80's
Choose any model you like from one of the old vintage raio/radiogram/"gramaphone" sites.

Many poular all in one units were produced under the name of 'Dansette' (bit like Biro..) and their imitators... plus for the homes in living room, their may have been a proper RadioGram.
in the 50's/60's quite a few people still had 78 only - even windup and horn record players,

as 45/33 and plastic was a relatively 'new' concept (well it was only 1948 after the war)
like people in the late 90's/00's who still did not have a CD player (they existed too)
for fiction, you need to also appreciate the impact of the 'single and 'EP' as well as the expensive LP, the make model is probably less important, than the type (smaller Dansette, or larger furniture like radiogram's) There were always high quality manufacturers like Pye "Black Box" in the 60's as well as others.
Officially a stylus laster about 1000-2000 hrs of play.
there were also type types... for electronic record players (78/wind up used steel)
sapphire and diamond (diamond more expensive but lasted longer)

General Electric GE Wildcat Stereo Record Player Part 2
Where can I find a replacement stylus for a discontinued Akai model?
I have a record player - an Akai, model number AC-M373L - which needs a new stylus. A bit of searching online tells me the product is discontinued, and I can't seem to find anywhere that sells replacement styli for this model. Can anyone tell me where I might find one, or if a stylus for a similar model will do the job. Many thanks.
