Record Player Drive Belt
I need a little Record Player 101?
I am curious about record players, I wanted help so when the day comes I can make an informed decision.
What features are must haves?
Is a belt driven motor good? Whats better?
What Rpm's do I want it to be cable of?
Are there anti skip/scratch features like CD players?
and any other info you think I should know.
Please enthusiasts only, no speculations or guesses.
OK, there are about three different eras of records. 78's, around 20's, 30's, and 40's. 45's, around 50's and 60's. And 33 1/3's, around 60's past. (no smart ass year pickers please, decades are approximate). 78's & 33 1/3's are dinner plate size, and 45's are saucer size.
Anything that will play a 78, will usually play a 45 and 33 1/3, and will be belt driven. Later direct drives usually only play 33 1/3.
If you get a chance to buy a 78 & 45 player that will let you stack them, buy it now, you won't find it around much longer, and it will be a very nice piece. A direct drive 33 1/3 you can buy for decades from now.
