Record Old Plantation
Record Old Plantation
I'm looking for a song title. The most important man in town is going to die and it turns out to be a slave.?

This is a christian song. It might be considered a spoken word recording. The story is about the town receives news the most important man in town is going to die. The plantation owner thinks it's him. He prepares to die. But the next morning it's the slave who has died. I think the slave's name is Old Mose but not certain.

I'm trying to find this recording for my Dad's 79TH birthday. Any help is greatly appreciated.

oh my gosh, that is so sweet! That just kinda touched my heart that you are doing that for your dad :)
I'm trying to Google it now and see what I can find. Good luck! I'll edit my answer if I find anything!

Alex Jackson's Plantation Orch. - When Erastus Plays His Old Kazoo, 1927

Why is American slavery such a taboo issue in the United States?

There are documents in the National Archives, plantation records in State and County Libraries yet it seems like the subject is off limits. The country is two-hundred years old, why can't the country and the nation be honest with itself?
Some will and continue to say, slavery was in the past. The Constitution, the Revolution, the Civil War are all in the past. There are some views about each event in the past of the United States I don't care for but I still learn about them and try to understand.

Because it flies in the face of our ideals of liberty and justice for all. Facing one's own (or one's country's) contradictions is uncomfortable at best. It is a shameful part of how the country came to be an economic power in the world.

Is it necessary to face up to our past and to do whatever we can to keep from unlawfully imprisoning people again? Absolutely. That's why people get an education, and sometimes the education takes; other times, belief and how we want things to have been (or be) takes over.

In short, the U.S. is populated by fallible human beings, that's why.
