Rebuilt Idler
I rebuilt a 98 305 chevy , why is the oil pressure so high??
I'm old school so this is my first roller cam engine , and I have put 84 heads on it and use a intake and carb. and all warmed up to 180 degree's and it idle's at 750 rpm the oil pressure is 65 pounds. I feel this is to high. any comments please??
That's not high, for a Chevy. Gm has always run higher oil pressures than many other car makers. While if that was on a Ford I would worry because Ford has always run a lower pressure, 35 would be high as far as Ford pressures go. I have rebuilt over 30 different Chevy engines and 65 lbs oil pressure is a good number as far as I would like to see. Do expect a slight drop over time as parts get "broke in". 55 to 60lbs would sound about right in your case. By any chance did you use a High Volume oil pump? or maybe a Big Block oil pump? These will bump pressure slightly, and deliver a steadier flow of oil. And yes,( a big block Chevy oil pump WILL fit a small block, used them all the time.) even though a parts counter at the auto parts will try to tell you they won't.
