Professional Audio
A good professional video camera with good quality and good audio?
Im making a movie in September and I started looking into cameras about a week ago, I'll be submitting these into film fest across the nation, I was looking at sony hvr-hd1000u but I heard the audio wasn't the best I want good quality and even more important fantastic audio, I would only like to spend about $2,000 on it. But I want it to look and sound good, so I'm not embarrassed to take it.
So any help please.
The Sony HDR-HV1000 is at the low end of the Sony pro line. If you check the specs on the lens and single imaging chip, they are the same as the HDR-HC9 consumer cam and the HVR-A1U. The audio associated with both these is fine - if you use the built-in mics properly. Most people do not, so external mics are required. The HVR-HD1000 has a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio-in jack so all you need is an XLR adapter (juicedLink CX231 or BeachTek DXA-6 are a good place to start) for using decent XLR mics. Basically, the HVR-HD1000 is in the pro line-up because it is a shoulder mount camcorder. The HDR-FX7 would be a lot better. The larger lenses and 3-chip imaging chip array will provide you a larger low-light operating "window" - it won't be *GREAT* but it will be a lot better than the smaller lens/imaging chip of the HD1000.
"Fantastic audio" will cost. Audio Technica, Shure and Sennheiser make great mics - you will want - at lease - a Sennheiser or Audio Technical shotgun mic (for boom work) and a wireless lavaliere or two from Sennheiser, Shure or AT.
And lighting. And cases (Pelican). And tripod (Bogen-Mafrotto) or maybe a camera crane (Kessler). And high capacity rechargable batteries form the camcorder manufacturer... and lots more stuff. You can easily spend more on non-camera stuff compared to what was spent on the camcorder.
