wat Diameter plate should i cut and put in press to make a hemisphere dome of 65mm dia, plate thickness is 3mm
I want to make a 65 mm dia hemishare dome by cutting a 3mm thick plate and pressing it in the press machine.... wat dia plate should i cut... can i have some general formula or SITE to take guidence.... ?
The "smartest man alive" had a pretty good idea, but I think you are making a hollow dome, with a wall thickness of about 3mm, not a solid hemisphere.
the volume of a 3mm thick, 65mm dia. hemisphere is;
4/3 * π * 32.5³ / 2 - 4/3 * π * 29.5³ / 2 = 18129mm³
which is the same volume as a 3mm thick disk, sqrt((18129 / π / 3) * 2 = 88
You might start with about a 88mm disk, but you may have to modify that some depending on the actual forming method. If you are drawing, with edge restraint , there will tend to be some thinning of the piece, if you just place the disk loose over a hemispherical recess and hit it with a hemispherical punch there will be a tendency for the edges to thicken (and possibly wrinkle) is will take a lot of force and a rather ductile material to maintain a uniform 3mm thickness.
