i bought an older portable turntable and everything works fine, except its so quiet...both speakers are putting out a clean sound, and when i open up i notice there is a tube in there...would replacing it help? its probably around 30 years old
Usually, all the capacitors need replacing in those old units to get them working to spec. Replacing any tubes with new or NOS replacements isn't a bad idea either if there's nowhere around to have them tested.

Does anyone remember the happy feeling you had when you got an lp single of your favorite song?
I have this fond memory of going to the music store with a parent when I wanted a song I heard on radio. It was usally a ritual, if I didn't know the name of the song I would sing a little piece of it to the lady who owned that little music store. If I knew the name I would just tell the lady and she would acquire it. She had shelves full of lp singles behind the counter. Then she would play it for you on the little portable turntable right by the register. Then she would ring you up put your lp single into a small brown paper bag and happy I would leave the music store. Oh what fond memories. How things have changed, now to just download from itunes.
Yes I remember, it was glorious to know you had a 45rpm I had a bunch.. I was country when country wasn't cool. all my friends were rock and roll.
