Rocket Italian Premium Plus - Does It Work Or Not?
Rocket Italian is a popular on line system for learning to speak Italian. Does it really work?
WHAT IS THE MAIN IDEA BEHIND ROCKET ITALIAN?
Rocket Italian teaches Italian using an approach knowns as visual association. "Visual association" is how children naturally learn to speak a language. You SAW and object or situation simultaneously HEARD the word that goes with it. This way, you made quick associations between things and the words that refer to them.
This way of learning is hard to duplicate with a textbook or class-room instruction. However, with images, video, audio recordings, and special software, the visual association process can be recreated.
This is the basic approach in Rocket Italian. The program attempts to make the process quick and fun.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
The makers of Rocket Italian have made the process easy and entertaining, but this doesn't mean it is absolutely effort-less You need to be consistent by working with the material every day (at least an hour). In this way, you build momentum. If you wait too long (3-4 days or a whole week) between lessons, the system cannot do the work it is designed to do.
It is normal to feel a bit overwhelmed at first. Similar to learning to ride a bike, you may feel that you are not getting anywhere for the first couple of weeks. If you keep going, you will get to the point after a week or two where things will "fall into place". At this point you will see that you are able to effortlessly pick up words in the audio recordings and that you are able to make basic Italian sentences without having to think too much.
Then you can focus on learning more words and more advanced grammar.
IS IT THE BEST CHOICE FOR EVERYONE?
Rocket Italian is a self paced system. There are no exams to study for or teachers to force you through the materials. If you feel you need the pressure of a classroom setting in order to take action, consider a class at a local college. Remember, however, that classroom instruction will take longer and cost more.
