Un55B8000 Samsung - Stunning Tv ... If You Have The Space
We bought this monitor to replace a 4 year old Toshiba 37 "LCD panel for your home cinema set-up. With a room 7m x 4m, where we sit around 4-5m away from the screen, 7.1 we set-up with large floor standing speakers, subwoofers, etc., so a really big screen was preferred. A projection screen was excluded because we could not live with the black-out required to view the content during the day so we studied the LCD, LED and plasma screens from 50 "up. After trawling the market for a week or so, we opted for this screen Samsung - have found reviews for it, so this posting to Amazon to help all other potential buyers.
Beware: it is huge, being some 1.3 m wide and 0.9 on the stand (which is pre-fitted to the model 55). The box it comes in 1.4 x 1m W x 0.4m H D.
After unpacking, set-up was easy - we simply disconnect the source from the old screen, and connected them to the Samsung. The Samsung quickly locate all the Freeview channels via local RF antenna; network connection to our router took second and now we can view the contents of shared folders directly on the TV (this is also our PS3, the PS3 can display more internet). The internet Samsung is not exactly what you might think - you can not surf the web, content instead, you can view selected through 'widgets'. For example, the Weather widget allows you to see the 5-day forecasts for a number of international cities, the new widget displays headlines, etc. It 's a bit like a smaller version of teletext, and not a major selling point in the my opinion.
The prepackaged recipes and games is a bit 'odd, and I doubt that many people use it often, if ever at all.
4 HDMI connections should be enough for anybody. We are using 2 - Freesat box and PS3. Both work perfectly. Our standard DVD player (an old Pioneer player multi-region) connects via component video jacks and also works well. We had a slight problem with lip-sync on all video sources to begin with, which was quickly rectified through our amplifiers AV delay settings (we found a delay of 50ms solved the problem perfectly).
Display configuration options include the usual array of stuff you get on those screens - Hue / Color, sharpness, etc. etc. To make simple configuration screen, stick a disc THX Optimizer (all DVDs of Star Wars live- THX Optimizer) nel tuo lettore DVD e seguire le istruzioni sullo schermo." onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#ebeff9'" onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor='#fff'">action and most of the films Pixar THX have the option to set-up logo> THX Optimizer) on your DVD player and follow the onscreen instructions. Shops Samsung's display settings by input, so you have a separate configuration screen for standard DVD than Blu-ray.
You can not comment on the set of audio features, as we direct all audio through our Yamaha AV amp and external speakers.
Screen performance? And 'brilliant. Watch Blu-ray source material, such as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl or Amadeus is fantastic. The opening scenes Blade Runner on Blu-ray are amazing on this screen. Standard DVD prices too well, once you optimize your display settings. The Lord of the Rings meets the movies really well, as well as older titles like Star Wars. We also tested older material, including the 4-disk version of Gone with the Wind - considering the age and size of the title of this screen, the image is holding very well. Our concern with a screen this size would enlarge any source flaws - of course, makes him a bit 'on some older source material, but is not guilty of the screen.
source off-air on Freeview and Freesat is perfectly watchable. Dave and Virgin 1 on Freeview are fine - just do not expect high-quality Blu-ray source.
The screen is very reflective, and being 1.3mx 0.9m sobering light. This is only remarkable if you have a window in front (ie behind the viewing position) and watch video containing dark scenes. We have this problem, and we probably solve mounting a speaker blind to the window in question, to avoid reflections on the screen. Besides this, we had no problem.
In general, if you have the space to accommodate this screen (ie sit around 4m from it), I can recommend.
