RCA Cables and Phono Jacks?
I took apart a camera viewfinder last night and was able to power it up using a 9-volt battery. This took up 3 of the available 4 wires coming out of it. The last wire should be video right? Well, I hooked up that last wire to the little end loop of a shielded, panel mounted phono jack and hooked in a little RCA camera to it. I could see nothing but static on my viewfinder. What am I wrong, do I need to get two wires on that phonojack? Should I open up the wire coming from the camera and splice the only cable coming out of the viewfinder? Please help! How do I do this?!
Yes, a phono jack would require two-conductors so if you are only connecting a single wire to the centre of the phono jack then you have an open circuit since the outer conductor (or shielding) also needs to be connected as part of a loop. The DC power should only use two conductors (positive and negative), I would suspect that the other two wires make up the centre and shielding conductors of the video signal.
Note: the other possibility is that the shielding conductor is a braided mesh that surrounds the inner-layer of the 4th wire, so although the inner core may appear to only have a single conductor, the mesh wire around it is actually a second conductor and is just as critical to connect to the outside of the phono plug.

Wireless Speakers - What You Need to Know

Some Frequantly asked questions about the speakers are;
Can I play my hi-fi speakers at the same time as the speakers?
If your hi-fi has an aux out or a phono out then this should allow both sets of speakers can be used simultaneously. If it does not, then you will need a product like an RF transmitter mate which does not require an audio output socket.

You can hang the speakers on the walls, without a mount. There are 2 cut-outs on the back of the
speakers that enable them to be walled mounted when hooked onto screws or nails.
Will this product interfere with my existing wireless broadband setup?
AQ Wireless Speakers use a transmission frequency between 863 and 865 MHz - this will not affect a wireless network.
Do these speakers have a separate volume control? i.e. can I plug them into my hi-fi/computer where the volume is turned right down and still have reasonable volume coming through the speakers in another room?
They do have a built-in volume control. This can be used to provide independant volume control if the transmitter is connected to a line level output, which most hi-fis and some computers do use.
As the volume is controlled on the speaker, you can use more than one set of wireless speakers and operate them at different volumes at the same time.
Can I link multiple speaker sets to a single transmitter?
As long as all of the speakers are within range of the transmitter and tuned in to it correctly - you can use multiple sets of speakers with one transmitter.
Would these be suitable for a TV and how would they connect?
We have found a scart adaptor that can handle the output of sound to the transmitter which works very well.
