Matched Pair Cartridge
I have an HP Photosmart C4780 printer that is supposed to match with 60 or 60XL cartridges?
However, prior to buying new cartridges, I was getting an error message: "problem with printer cartridge"
and I thought I had used very little of the new expensive cartridges last time, so I bucked up and spent $75.00 for a pair of new 60XL cartridges. I opened the packages carefully, removed the film over the opening, and placed each cartridge in the corresponding slot until it clicked tight. Now, I'm getting an error message..."incompatible printer cartridge" WHAT GIVES??
Sometimes that happens. It may be due to dirty electrical contacts in the cartridge carrier slots or possibly bad cartridge(s). Pull them back out and check the contact pins inside each slot. You can try to carefully clean them with a soft, lint free cloth and some alcohol (best to have the printer powered off at this point, just unplug it), and clean the cartridges' contacts area too. Wait till the alcohol evaporates and the contacts are dry and put them back in. Only one of the cartridges need to be bad in order for it to give that error.

Error Free Recording In VXA Data Tape
VXA tape drive has new technology of variable speed mechanism. With the help of this technology the VXA tape drive matches with the host’s transfer speed to avoid the occurrence of “back-hitching”. Back hitching leads to wear of tape drive and media, thus causing delays in work operations. The design of VXA data tape is more advanced and streamlined. Therefore lesser expensive and fewer parts are required by the VXA tape for its manufacturing which results in enhanced reliability and lower cost.
The issue of tape to head alignment is alleviated by the VXA packet technology. VXA packet technique has solved the most common problem of tape to head alignment that occurs in the conventional data tapes. VXA has overall changed the data reading & writing process that is used in the traditional tape formats. Digital data packets have been introduced in the VXA tape technology. These packets serve the purpose of data writing and restoring. First of all the data strings are broken, and are then converted into smaller data packets. Then these packets are written on the VXA tape media. Each of the data packets comprises of CDC (cyclical redundancy check), unique address, synchronization marker, ECC (error correction code) and user information of 64 bytes. Each segment of data packet consists of 387 packets that are read and recorded with the help of a buffer segment.

In the world, only VXA technology offers the tape drives that offer perfect writing with zero tolerance. During each drum rotation, alternate pair of azimuth data packets is recorded by VXA drive. These recorded data packets are then read by the 2nd trailing tape head. If there is any error in the information in packet, then it will be re-written to remove the affected area. Thus as a result, zero-tolerance for data recording errors in VXA data tape is achieved at the packet level. Few amounts of errors do occur in other tape formats during recording cycles, but no error occurs in VXA tape format.
Tiny tracks are sequentially traced by the traditional drives for reading data, on the other hand the all of the 4 tape heads are used by VXA tape drive that scan the entire tape surface. The VXA tape drive scans & reads the packets multiple times, and makes sure that each of the data packets is free of errors. This process is called “over-scanning” that increases reliability of saved information. This technology is very advantageous as the data can be recovered safely if the tape is accidentally damaged.
During data reading operation, the VXA data tape is read & scanned by the 4 heads into buffer segment. As unique address is assigned to each of the data packet, the packets are reassembled by the VXA buffer to correct their order. The buffer retains those data packets that do not contain any error during the first pass. Subsequent passes read those data packets that are missed during the first pass. These data packets are then added in order to complete the data strings. This information is then sent forward to the host once it is completed. This method is similar to those technologies used in internet, rewritable CDs and networking.
