Marantz Stereo

Why aren't my surround speakers and receiver working together?
I have a Marantz SR5000 receiver and new Energy 5.0 surround speakers. Hooked the speakers up but the sound doesn't seem quite right and seems low volume in surround mode. Playing music in stereo sounds great, so it's really just a surround mode issue. Just now the center speaker went "quiet", which scared me and I shut the whole thing down. Is this a setup problem or does the receiver just suck? (I know the receiver's not top notch and is old but it should handle the speakers, shouldn't it? Both are 8 ohms). Thanks!
Surround sound effects will only play when they are present in the audio track. This is a set up issue. After all speakers are correctly hooked up and you have done the speaker set up on the receiver, you must set the volume levels independently using the built in test tone generator in the receiver and a sound level meter(or your ears). Consult the owner's manual for the SR5000 for proper set up. Good luck.

ZOOM! ZOOM! H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder
Samson(Zoom) has announced plans to reveal its new H4n recorder at CES 2009. The Zoom H4n takes many of the features included on the original Zoom H4 (stereo mics, XLR/TRS mic inputs, variable-recording patterns, and a slew of recording formats and resolutions), but the design has been overhauled with a larger screen, improved button arrangement, a shock-absorbing rubberized body, and an all-metal microphone design.
The Zoom H4n records to SD and SDHC Flash media (up to 32GB) and captures audio resolutions up to 24 bit at 96KHz. Unlike the competition, the Zoom H4n includes many musician-friendly features, such as 50 virtual guitar-amp model effects, track markers, playback speed control, and studio effects. It also has a speaker built into the back of the unit. It's not going to replace your book box anytime soon, but it comes in handy if you want to check your audio or play a clip for someone on the go. You can certainly use the speaker to play music as well - it's just not going to sound very good.
Like the original Zoom H4, the Zoom H4n has a number of features that really set it apart from competing recorders from Sony, Marantz, Tascam, and Edirol. For one thing, you can use the Zoom H4n either to record straightforward stereo tracks or as a 4-track digital recording studio.
One of the main highlights of this compact audio recorder is the built-in X/Y condenser microphone which can support sounds which come in 90 or 120 degrees, thus resulting to more vivid audio recordings. And because users can digitally adjust the microphone, they can regulate every minuscule detail of the sound.
See More Information about this, The Zoom H4n is available through SalesaBuy.com.
