Knob Technics
what color to match my cabinets?
Hi all, I'm extremely design challenged, but just bought my first place and am trying to spruce it up. I recently sanded and painted my laminate cabinets to a darker slate blue grey. The technical color is Ralph Lauren Blue Leather. Im trying to figure out a good color to go with the cabinets and the new silver knobs to paint the walls in the kitchen. I would like a "warm" color, but really don't know what colors would go with the slate color. I have been fairly risky in the colors in other rooms such as aqua in the living room and bright sage in my hallways outside the kitchen. Any ideas? Or websites I can go to to find help with color matching?

This is a person I would say has a highly trained ear!
As a musician I noticed one of the most overlooked tools that a person can have is their ears.I been in many recording studios where guys are tweaking their amp knobs, spending hours with mic placements, and turning EQ dials just to get that right sound. All this is good, but still, the ears, I confess, must be one of the most important setups ever!
When it comes to recording music in your home studio especially. When you don't have a producer, engineer, or mixer who already have very trained ears! In this circumstance the ear is well overlooked as a tool. Having a trained ear makes all the difference in your recordings! You could make a mix that was horribly recorded into a brilliant masterpiece if you you were an "Ear Pro"!

So how do you become an "Ear Pro" and why is it so beneficial? We've all heard of pros making horrible recordings into great ear candy recordings. How? By tweaking the EQ knobs effortlessly to make each track sound sweet! They do this easily because they are Ear Pros, and they have spent lots of time sharpening their listening skills, and honing their ears to become one of the secret tools in their studio!
It can be technical, but really it's simple, takes time, and takes the right exercises. What you want to do to improve your recordings is to train your ears to hear frequencies. How does this help? Well, by training your ears to hear frequencies you pin point sweet spots and not so sweet spots in every track and basically tweak them at ease to benefit the whole mix of tracks!
So how do the heck do you learn to hear frequencies? Well, it can get technical there as you will need to learn more about what frequencies each instrument fits nicely into and the effects on the track when frequency is boosted or cut.
I am not going to go into learning this as it could take many, many pages to cover, but I have found a great program out there on the market that can teach you this and enhance your ears, and improve your recordings in leaps and bounds. Everyone I have refereed to this ear training course has had tremendous success without a doubt!
