Ion Usb Recording Turntable
Why does my usb turntable make a ringing noise when I record?
I have an ion usb turntable that is obviously plugged into my usb port. I also have the rca cables connected to a mixer(not a dj mixer). I use that mixer as my soundcard. I have my monitors running to the mixer for sound output. When I try to record in Audition it records, but the sound is really low while recording and there is a humming noise. When I play back what was recording the sound is fine, but the humming is present in the recording. I thought it might need to be grounded somehow, but I didn't think a usb turntable would need to be grounded. Any help would be apreciated.
Before I was using studio monitors I was using regular speakers and the sound was still low, but there was no humming...so I assume it has something to do with the monitors
You may find that your computer is adding noise to the turntable. What sort of humming anyway?
Move the turntable as far away as you can from the PC monitor and the PC.
What is the power supply for the turntable? It might be a poor quality one which lets hum through.
If you are using RCA cables then that is a source of hum if there is a ground loop being made by accident.

Yes you can. Just use Windows Media Player instead.
