Ion Turntable Noise
So I'm having volume issues with my turntable?
So I have an Ion USB Turntable and a stereo, and a Phillips Stereo (it's a bit old, one of the big boxy ones from about 2003 or something). The stereo plays CDs fine but to listen to a record I have to turn the volume up to max, there is a noticeable white noise when I do this. The record still doesn't even sound very loud. Would a newer stereo be better? Or is it the turntable? Is there any way to fix this without having to buy a new stereo?

Most of the Ion turntables have a built-in phono preamp and a switch somewhere, possibly on the bottom panel, next to the
RCA cables. You may need to switch that to "line".

Software for LP Recordings?
I got my dad an ION LPtoCD USB Turntable, But the software that came with it is not the best for removing the cracks and other sounds associated with LP Recordings. So I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good audio editor, even if it's only use is to just get out the background noise's.
But Please keep in mind my dad is not very Computer Literate, So something simple "does what it says on the tin"

Thanks Guys. Audacity does come with the turntable but when you get it set so the clicks and other sounds are almost gone you end up with a track that has very poor sound, i.e. the treble suffers. I do have sound forge on my PC, But it's abit to complicated of a (Gentleman in is older years) to work out, Guess I'm going to have a long day ahead teaching the difference between Right and Left click.
Careful with the "gentleman in his older years" tag..

Sound Forge has the best click and pop removal function I've found so far.
Even left on the default setting the results are very good.
If the LPs are all in much the same condition as long as they are clean a set routine can be used for de-clickpopping them.
And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
