Connecting cassette player with Ion turntable?
I have an Ion TTUSB 05XL turntable which supposedly allows you to convert cassettes as well as LPs. I can successfully convert my LPs to ITunes but I can't get the cassette section on my micro hi-fi to record as I can't hear the tune that's been recorded and the equaliser on EZ Vinyl Converter doesn't come alive when I play the cassette. I have an audio in line on the stereo and an audio in line on the turntable. I've tried connecting the audio in on the stereo to the microphone in line on my laptop. I've plugged the audio in line in to the turntable and into the laptop. I've also tried connecting the turntable and the stereo via the audio in line and not connecting to the laptop at all but nothing seems to work. I know I don't have to use the RCA plugs that come with the turntable. It's just a question of what goes where. Please help!
The problem is your mini system probably has no line-level outputs, like tape out. It seems you only have inputs which is common on mini-systems. It would work if you had a separate cassette deck and the outputs were hooked up to the inputs on your Ion or on your computer. Or, if you had a separate cassette deck hooked up to a stereo receiver and the tape outs on the receiver were hooked up to your Ion or your computer.
You might be able to grab a working cassette deck pretty cheap these days. But, it might be more cost-efficient to just replace your cassettes with used CDs for a few bucks each. Sound quality would be a little better than a cassette to digital conversion too.
